The Sweetest Harvest, day 14 – Remember the Calling and Live It Up!

When you feel the kicking from deep within and you can’t see your toes, you’ve been called.

When you wake up every hour to visit the smallest room of your house and you put feet to floor slow and easy to avoid a sickening mess, you’ve been called.

When the reality hits and the bracelet with his/her name is placed on your arm while you lay motionless decked in hospital gown and wild hair, you’ve been called.

When the drive home scares you to death and you wonder what in the world you’re going to do with this little human, you’ve been called.

He has given you everything you need to mother.  And He will keep giving you more when the journey takes sudden turns and it winds mysteriously and you wonder if joy really exists on this arduous journey.

“A strong woman knows she has strength enough for the journey, but a woman of strength knows… it is in the journey where she will become strong.” – Unknown

The moments we encounter from day to day, they represent the open field that is this harvest.  We are called to “Train up a child in the way he should go” Proverbs 22:6.

In the car seat, on the ball field, at the table.

Beside the time-out chair, on the porch swing, in the grocery aisle.

In the clothing store, on vacation, on the playground.

In front of the tv, by the bedside.  Moment after moment.

We are called.  Every mother, every father.

A quote stenciled on old wood, painted pink hangs over our daughter’s bed.

“A Happy Childhood Lasts Forever”

These are the days!  We are writing a story.  A legacy, written in simple every day moments where we grab hold of our hats and embrace the calling that is parenting!

The days – long, and the years – short.  But remember the beauty of the harvest.  If we can just keep our gaze on the work of the field!  A bountiful harvest will yield plenty.  And  be preserved for the generations to come.

For the final day of the journey, when we look out and see all the work that is left for our hands, may we not lose heart!  May we keep our joy!  And when we bend low, may we remember the beauty in the valley.  That as we mother on, we keep calm!

These are the best days!!
